Pennington County Master Gardeners Present “Spring Fever! 2018”

On Saturday, March 3, 2018, Pennington County Master Gardeners will present the ninth annual “Spring Fever!” gardening seminar. The event will be held at the Rushmore Room at the Ramkota in Rapid City. Doors will open at 8:00 am, the program will begin at 8:30 and will end by 4:00 pm. More information on the seminar and a registration form is available at www.blackhillsgarden.com under the “Welcome” tab. The registration fee of $35 includes a sandwich lunch catered by Minerva’s. The price is being held as low as possible to encourage as many gardeners as possible to attend. Please register before February 27, 2018.

Spring Fever! 2018 will feature two presentations by Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott of Washington State University. Dr. Chalker-Scott has authored four award-winning gardening books, and has been published extensively in the scientific literature as well as popular magazines including American Nurseryman, Organic Gardening, and Fine Gardening. She is one of The Garden Professors— a group of academic colleagues who educate and entertain through their blog and Facebook page. Dr. Chalker-Scott will present “Evidence Based Gardening Information” and “The Root of the Problem—When Plants Don’t Thrive”.

Dr. John Ball, SDSU Professor and Forestry Extension Specialist, will open the event with “Selecting Trees for Western South Dakota”. In the afternoon, four “Table Talks” will be presented by area Master Gardeners. Topics for Table Talks include: Growing Vegetables on Your Patio or Deck, Caring for House Plants, Conserving Water in Your Garden and Using Compost and Mulch. Several information tables are planned including an “Ask a Master Gardener” table, and tables by the Rapid City Garden Club, the Great Plains Native Plants Society and the Solid Waste and Recycling Center from the Landfill. SD Wildlands Fire will have information and answer questions about fire wise landscaping. Drawings will be held for door prizes. There will be a table with free gardening items and gardening information. A silent auction will be held to assist with expenses in order to keep registration costs low. Items for these offerings, the door prizes and free tables are donated by Master Gardeners and by commercial supporters of the event.
Please join us for a fun day of garden talk, great prizes and good information!
